Sunday in Barcelona - art and grand prix

Today as the boys were off on their Grand Prix adventures.  So the girls were off to town - not so much to shop, but to explore the Barcelona art scene and immerse ourselves in the culture.  There are two key areas and we explored them both - walking for miles.

There is the Gothic Quarter is Barcelona’s tourist star, called Barri Gothic.  It has amazing streets, shops and art scenes.  The photos below highlight some of the streets.

El Raval is the slightly shadowy figure on the sidelines. The neighborhood's edgy mix of art, attitude, and street life attracts cosmopolitan crowds.  El Raval is Barcelona’s most colorful district, and possibly the most happening.  El Raval constitutes a major sway of Barcelona's Old Town and was located within the city walls until they were knocked down in 1859 as the city threatened to burst at the seams.

We found a great place for lunch in a square where we could sit outside and people watch, where again, Emma and I found some sangria! Perfect.
Off we go - walking to down - we are averaging about 15,000 steps a day and mum is doing amazing at 69 years old!

The streets are very cool - you never know what is around the corner!

Just some shots of the street art.......................

We think this was a stag do - or just some really weird people!

Some of the shops are very cool!

There was a duck shop - full of plastic rubber duckies!

the ice-creams are super yummy -

Barcelona Grand Prix

WRITTEN BY KARL - We headed off nice and early to the Grand Prix - in fact so early that we were almost the first there! We found our seats - which were amazing with great views - the best in the ground I think.  We had a fantastic view of the track and could see five corners…………………..and the pit exit.  Thanks to friends of Dean and Emma’s for the grandstand recommendation.

We then went off to explore the track and watched the GP 3, GP 2 and Porsche races.  During the break before the F 1 we headed down to the main grandstand and went for a ride in the Lewis Hamilton simulator which was a lap of Silverstone.  We then checked out the shops and headed to the far end of the straight just in time to see the cars come around to line up on the grid.  We got a great close up view of the cars are they lined up.  We quickly headed back to our seats for the start of the race - the start of the race was very exciting which both Mercedes crashing on turn 4. This made for a great race as the Ferraris and Red Bulls duelled it out with Red Bull winning, Max Verstappen, the youngest ever winner of a Grand Prix and Ferrari 2nd and 3rd.

After the race we wandered down the start finish straight and got photos on pole position and then headed off for a drink ……… or ten!!!!!

Great day out!
