Exploring Barcelona - hop on/hop off tour

FRIDAY 13th May:-
After a great sleep we were ready for a big day so we walked into town to catch our Touristic Bus and explore the city.  We began by hopping on the red route and we got fab seats right at the front of the top section of the bus – perfect! Connor had a deal going with me that for every Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini he spotted I would give him 20cents so he was ready to earn some money! He ended up earning about 3 euros

Us on the bus in perfect seats - we love the hop on hop off bus and Barcelona is so big and spread out especially in regard to all the attractions in and around the city

Love having the go-pro for all the family shots......................

We began at Placa Catalunya which is right beside Les Rambla (Barcelona’s most famous street) and from here were went to Passeig de Gracia, Montjuic which has a cable car and a castle, the olympic stadium, down to the seaside and marina and much much more.

What we could not get over was just how beautiful Barcelona is and how many trees there are lining so many of the streets – it really is amazing and I can see why so many people say they love Barcelona and it is their favourite city.

Barcelona, thus far, also has a really relaxed chill vibe! We stayed on the bus for the whole round trip – just over two hours –

and then it was time to get off and find some lunch and so we headed to Les Rambla where we had been told, about half way down there was a really cool market where you could grab some food – we found it, explored, got lunch and ate outside in the sun shine – perfect! The market was cool, full of seafood, meat, fruit and veges, smoothies and fruit salads and all types of different foods! What a fab place!

The colours were so vibrant - fruit salads delicious

Nuts, fruit and all sorts of interesting things

Chocolates - mmmmmmmmmmm

The seafood aroma was quite pervasive - lucky we like seafood

Fruit juices to keep us going

Lollies, lollies and more delish lollies

Cheeses galore!

Lunch from the market consumed in the square outside
After we were replenished we continued down the Rambla exploring the little stores and just taking in the experience and vibe of the street.  As we neared the end I told the others about a little bar one of French teachers has told us about.  I got out the directions and we headed there as it was just off the Rambla before you hit the beach.  Wow, what a great place – it was just like being in a fairy forest – the photos really do not do it justice! Stepping inside it was like we had stepped into a fairy world, trees (with faces in the trunks) growing up pillars and covering the ceiling, low lighting, stars on the roof, waterfalls and every hour it would get really dark and a lightning storm would happen, complete with flashing lights and sound effects. Such an awesome place!

Our first sangria - we had to fight the boys to keep them away from our drinks and focussed
on their beers................................

This is the old bull fighting arena -

The movie being made that we spotted while on the bus
A few other cool shots: -

Down at the water - beautiful walking along the promenade

Tree lined streets - just gorgeous......................

Hanging out with the aunty and uncle

Les Rambla
La Rambla - the famous Barcelona street

The hilarious people dressed up to make some money........................
Then we have the kids on the lions...........

We then headed down to the beach and marina so the boys in partiuclary could dream while looking at the boats down there.  We had also seen some formula 1 tents down that way and so set off for a wander.  There were, of course, shops and markets there too – so we were all happy!

After exploring this and getting some gelati we decided we would head back and catch the hop-on/hop-off bus again to do the other route which would take us to the Casa Bato, Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell and Tibadabo and also Barcelona’s football club stadium – FC Barcelona>  Again, this tour took about 2 hours and as it was now around 7 pm we decided it was time to head home to have dinner and get the kids to bed.

What a great day – lots of exploring and we loved it all.  We were happy and exhausted and ready for bed.

Sagrada Familia - we will visit this on Monday - can't wait

FC Barcelona - we will visit this on Tuesday - boys can't wait........
