Today we had a big day planned beginning with the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. The parade was at 11,30 am however we had been told to get there by 11am if we want any chance of seeing the action. We had breakfast and then decided to walk to the palace having a play in St James Park on our way. We arrived at 10.30 and already a crowd was beginning to form. We decided that this was a must see for all of us and we wanted the kids to have a great view so the plan was that I would "get a space and wait" while they went and played in the park close bye and had an explore around. Time flew bye as I was sitting next to a lady who was from Marseille who spoke good English.....................the crowd grew and grew, both by the fence and across the intersection on the island.

Just 2 minutes walk from our hotel and we are wandering across Westminster Bridge to go past Big Ben and head to Buckingham Palace - what a place! |
|
Cool little black London cabs........ |
At the majestic gates into the quite underwhelming Buckingham Palace - while a cool place, we have seen many beautiful chataeus, palaces and castles while in France and this one really does not rate!
With front row views the boys could not help but be enthralled by the whole changing of the guard experiences at Buckingham Palace - Loki rates it as one of his top 3 experiences in London. It seem nothing will top the Imperial War Museum!
|
There was action, shuffling and moves to the left and right................and a little bit of yelling and squealing....... |
|
The guy walking toward us would come right to the fence - the boys said hello and he replied "good morning". This was the only time he spoke. Boys were exicted as were those around us. |
|
It certainly had the pomp and ceremony expected but no one popped out on the balcony for a wave or a kiss! |
Connor right there amongst it...............................
|
We were not expecting that ! |
|
There was certainly a crowd - see Karl in the background! |
|
We think the queen was watching and listening as the window was open to one of her lounges. |
|
Gates open and ready for the ending of the changing of the guards.
Well, that was great - it was now time to go to the Natural History Museum and hope there are not hordes of people like yesterday - horray! No cues today and we could walk right in
The bones of a dinosaur........................... a very large one.......
Wow, amazing display in an amazing big hall!
This is what the hordes were coming to see - a huge and interactive dinosaur.
So much to see and do
The boys playing their own games surrounded by wild animals........
Once we were done at the natural history museum it was time for some shopping - a wee walk to Harrods and exploring the South Kensington area - perfect end to a great day! Love Harrods, love Boot and love exploring!
