Barcelona was a fantastic city full of surprises and one that I would certainly recommend and go back to. There was just so much variety and the overall vibe of the city was one of being 'chilled and in the moment'. It was really a great place to have six days as we had time to just relax, enjoy being in the city, having long Spanish lunches with sangria and not having to race around trying to do everything in just a few days.
One of my favourite times was on Sunday when we just roamed the streets exploring the street art and getting lost amongst the winding streets and long lunches drinking sangria, chatting and people watching.
Karl's favourite, apart from the Grand Prix, was strolling along the waterfront looking at the super yachts.
Mum's favourite was the soccer ground, although she enjoyed it all.
Both Connor and Lachlan said their favorite thing was Barcelona FC and Connor said he really enjoyed just hanging with his family.
Dean's favourite was obviously the Barcelona Grand Prix, but apart from this was the architecture and the views from Castle Montjuic.
Emma's favourite was the overall feel of the place, the culture and the street art.
There were some great street performers that were great to watch - the kids particularly enjoyed the guy groups that would do dancing and acrobatics.
The food was cheap, particularly at the supermarkets and the wine and beer prices crazy. The sangria was also amazing and will be missed as we head back to France.
We had been warned by lots of people about the pickpockets in Barcelona and so while we were very aware, this felt like such a safe and relaxed city. This was aided by the fact that there was a very large police presence in the city. Apparently they had a big crack down on pickpockets in the centre city over the last few years and so many have now left. The police were also very effective in moving a long people trying to sell things that were not registered to do so and performers without permits.
