Palais Longchamp and tram exploring

Today we decided to go down early for a game of soccer and to get a few bits from the supermarket.
We then made our lunch and headed off to explore.
First port of call was the main train station in Marseille - St Charles.  We caught the metro there and then had a look around.  Found some good road maps that we might have to buy if we get too lost this weekend exploring by car! We then walked around outside checking out the place - the we went of a mission to find the Arc de Triomphe Marseille - the photo is below - not as big as the one in France but still impressive and currently shut due to road works............

Then we headed to one of our faviourite parks - Palais Longchamp - this time we found the zoo - well a couple of hundred years ago it was a real zoo but now there is a zoo of fake life-sized animals.  The kids had fun climbing over them; playing tag and we had our picnic lunch there.

This is us exploring and trying to find the Marseille Observatory - we got a bit lost but found it eventually.  Each Wednesday and daily in the school holidays they do a talk on a different aspect of astronomy and explore the observatory.  Unfortunately our French is no where near being able to understand this type of experience and there was no English option or written information so the talk was not for us.  The receptionist let us have a look through the observatory and showed us the anxiety and very large telescope which was built in the 16th century which was very nice of him.
Treat time......delicious!
This place really is opulent and gorgeous
