Day 7 – Exploring Rome – Vatican City and the magnum shop

Today we woke and headed straight down for breakfast – breakfast was interesting.  There was a whole table of sweet things – chocolate, custard puffs, biscuits and cake – Connor thought it was great.  There was also juice, yogurt, cereal and toast which Karl and I had while the boys had some of everything.  They also had cappuccinos – finally some good coffee!  Italy coffee is certainly much better than what we have found anywhere in France.

We then got sorted and headed off on our day.  Plan: Vatican City, Spanish Steps and Magnum Store.

As the Vatican City was the furthest away we headed to the metro.  We went to the Termini Station (main station in Rome) and about every 10 steps there were people trying to sell you bus tours……….we had already decided given the traffic issues in Rome we would metro and walk this city! Got to the metro, got our tickets and on the train – no problem! We then hopped off at the right stop and wandered (with thousands of others) to the Vatican City,

There were some markets on the way in and so the kids were keen to shop = and shop they did, lots of little trinkets and gifts.

Here is a cool little police "car" that was inside the Vatican square - cute
The Vatican City - What an impressive place – amazing, even Karl was impressed.  We visited St Peter’s Square and St Peter’s Basilica.  Karl says it was “small but big”.  The inside of the church was very cool with lots to see.  There were lots of tour groups but it was nice just to be able to wander and do our own thing.  I then did some shopping while the boys waited outside.

The view looking back as we were leaving - beautiful!

We then headed toward the Spanish Steps and realised on our way that the Magnum Store was between us and the Spanish Steps and so this was our next port of call.  We walked along the river and what a beautiful place, so many amazing bridges and buildings.  Walking is certainly the way to see this city.
